Description
Monsoon Malabar is a uniquely Indian coffee-processing method — one of the few coffees in the world protected under India’s Geographical Indication (GI) Act, meaning it can legally only be produced in specific regions of Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu’s Malabar coast belt. Dhee Monsoon Malabar is our version of this traditional process, using Arabica beans from our own shade-grown estates.
After harvest and sun-drying, the beans are spread in open-sided warehouses and deliberately exposed to the moisture-laden monsoon winds for roughly 12–16 weeks (June through September). This mimics the centuries-old effect of coffee shipped by sailboat from India to Europe, when months at sea exposed the beans to humid ocean air. The beans swell, turn pale gold, and undergo a chemical transformation that dramatically lowers acidity while deepening body — a process no other origin replicates intentionally.
Full body, notably low acidity, and warm, earthy notes of spice, dark chocolate, and wood — a cup built for those who find regular coffee too sharp or acidic on the stomach. Works especially well with milk (filter coffee style) but is also popular black as an espresso or moka pot brew for its natural sweetness.
The extended moisture exposure during monsooning breaks down the acids in the bean that normally give coffee its brightness or sharpness. This makes Monsoon Malabar one of the most stomach-friendly coffees available for people who otherwise avoid coffee due to acid sensitivity.
Grown on our shade-grown Chikmagalur estate and monsooned traditionally in open warehouses, following the same seasonal process used along the historic Malabar coast trade route.
Coffee drinkers who find regular filter coffee too acidic, milk-coffee traditionalists who want bold flavor without bitterness, and anyone curious about India’s most historically significant coffee style.

FAQ
Q: What is Monsoon Malabar coffee?
A: Monsoon Malabar is a traditional Indian coffee process where beans are exposed to monsoon winds for 12–16 weeks, lowering acidity and deepening body. It’s a Geographical Indication-protected product unique to India’s Malabar coast region.
Q: Is Monsoon Malabar coffee good for acid-sensitive stomachs?
A: Yes. The monsooning process significantly reduces the natural acids in the beans, making it one of the gentler coffee options for people who find regular coffee too acidic.
Q: What does Monsoon Malabar coffee taste like?
A: It’s full-bodied and low in acidity, with earthy, spiced, and dark chocolate notes rather than the bright or fruity notes of a washed Arabica.
Q: How should I brew Dhee Monsoon Malabar?
A: It’s excellent as South Indian filter coffee with milk, and also works well black via moka pot or espresso, where its natural sweetness stands out.
Q: Is Dhee Monsoon Malabar available with chicory?
A: The standard version is 100% pure coffee. A chicory-blended monsoon ed variant can be made available on request.
